Turkey - 3 June 2013 @ Konya/Gerome

This morning we started our orientation walk around Konya city centre. When we reached the Mevlana Museum, it was not opened yet. Hence, we walked around the area in search for a cafe but it was hard to find one and most of them were not yet opened for business even though it was nine-ish. In the end, we came to Hich Hotel which has a very nice outdoor setting and it is adjacent to the Mevlana Museum. The hotel is newly renovated and it looks funky and modern. I thought it couldn't go wrong with its coffee and hence I ordered Cappucino which was the worst coffee that I have ever had as it was diluted.

Tirit is a lamb dish cooked with small bread pieces, yogurt, melted butter and tomato sauce. It's the best dish that I have eaten so far.

On our way to Gerome, we stopped by at the Sultanhani Caravanserai near Askaray. This Sultanhani Caravanserai was built in 1229 by Sultan Keykubat and this is one of the many along the ancient Silk-Road. The caravanserai provided accommodation and other amenities for the merchants and stabling for their animals. The merchants had to move on to the next one after three days to make room for other merchants during peak season.

After settling in at the SES Hotel, we had an orientation walk around Gerome city centre and its surroundings. We were amazed at the bizarre landscape that is dominating the Cappadocia region.

Chicken for dinner after having lamb most of the time

As usual, most of people in the group would have gone off for a drink after dinner. As I was too full and therefore I decided to retire early with the other two fellow travellers. I was full of confidence that I would be able to find my way back. However, I made a wrong turn and we all got lost. It took us a very long time to find our way back to the hotel as we were too embarrassed to ask.
